Metapher Zahlen I
Metapher Zahlen II
Since the mid-1970s, Rupprecht Geiger has been intensively occupied with the work complex "Metaphor Number". In painting, as well as in drawing and printmaking, a series of works emerge that stand out thematically in Rupprecht Geiger's oeuvre.
By means of different techniques and in various shades of color, Geiger interprets in each case the numbers from 0 to 9, which he draws from his typical canon of forms of rectangles, circles and squares.
The word "number" immediately brings to mind a fixed value that is ubiquitous in everyday life. But as the prefixed word "metaphor" suggests, it is a pictorial transference, an artistic interpretation of a number. The experience of color remains a central point in this series of works: the contrast of the luminous colors, typical of Geiger, really brings the numbers to bear and invites us to look again and again.
